Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Creator and Saviour

Jesus Christ, God’s Son,  Creator and Saviour

Colossians 1.15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.

John 1.In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testifyconcerning that light, so that through Him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all  did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, Who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

II Corinthians 5.1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.  Dwelling in John 1.14
This is the idea of camping, of pitching a tent, a temporary place to live in.
Jesus did that.
We do that.
Peter spoke of departure in thise terms... Breaking camp.
II Peter 1.12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.
Put is aside= put off or away
Tent= tabernacle.... folding up the tent when we are about to break camp... My Dad and camping. The Israelites
Departure= exodus, exit, close of one’s life’s work The end
Now let’s go back to the beginning...

1. Through And In The Son of God of All Things Were Created
Colossians 1.16 For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.
John 1.3, 10
Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.
He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him
Jesus was with God in the beginning. Jesus is God. Jesus is the Wisdom of God.
When we understand this, it makes the implications of Christ coming to earth all the more amazing!
Nehemiah 9.6 You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship You.
The whale...
80 different species
The Blue Whale (Mystaliceti) has a filtering beard. They take in krill (crabs and shrimp). They get caught in the beard and then they lick it off with their tongue, which is big and weighs as much as an elephant. His liver is as big as an ox, the kidney as big as an elephant.
There are toothed whales (ldontoceti) which feed on bigger fish. They have lower teeth which fit into holes in their upper lip. They are for holding the food in their mouths until they are ready to swallow. They are not like lion’s teeth which are for tearing apart their food.
The Gray Whale makes its way down from the Arctic Circle through the Bering Straight along the coast until they get off of Mexico where they give birth. It is a 10 to 12,000 mile round trip. They travel in a school of 40. They travel as couple as these mammals pair for life. The males protect the females from attacks from killer whales along the route. If needs be the gray whales can travel at 50mph.
The babies are born. At birth they weigh 1 1/2 tons. They are born in the breech position. This is done so they will not drown. Remember they are mammals. If there are complications at birth the other whales will assist.
After they are born the mother, who has been fasting for the whole trip, squirts the milk into the mouth of the babies. In 8 days they double in weight. The milk is 45% fat! They take in 50 gallons per feeding.
Who told the Gray Whales way up there in the Arctic Circle to travel all those thousands of miles to that warm water where there is a suitable nursery?
The Gray Whale has a compass in it! With the sperm the size of a pin head and an egg the size of a pin containing all of the instructions of a super compass which they follow the magnetic line?
The Designer knew how to do this. With stomachs that can hold a ton of food, the Blue Whales have been found to have 28,000 octopus in it.
Perfectly fit nursery, milk in amounts that are perfectly fit as well. Jesus Christ is that Designer.
The amazing works of God’s creation. The precision with which it operates. Leaf Mulch, The length of daylight and darkness throughout the days of the year. Think of the plants, the stars, the moon and the sun. The migration of the Monarch Butterflies, the trees that already have buds.

And Can It Be?

He is the Creator. He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His Grace, Emptied Himself of all but love
And bled for Adam’s helpless race.

Jesus Christ, God’s Son,  Creator and Saviour makes The Father, God Almighty known unto us.
2. If You Have Seen Him You Have Seen God, The Father.
Colossians 1.15.  The Son is the image of the invisible God
Hebrews 3.The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
John 14.7-11, 1.14
If you have seen Him you have seen the Father!
We tend to separate the Trinity. God, the Father is represented perfectly by Jesus His Son.
That is how we come to the Father...
O come to the Father through Jesus His Son ne give Him the glory great things He has done!
God the Father is revealed to us by His Son , Jesus Christ.

3. Christ Is The Head of The Body, the Church.
Colossians 1.18 18 And He is the head of the body, the church;
How we need to hear that today.
We talk about about the church so often without mentioning Him, we talk about worship apart from Him. So much goes on and it is forgotten almost that it was He Who said, “I will build My Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”
We need to here the words of Jesus in Matthew 28.And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held Him by the feet, and worshipped Him.
All Hail The Power of Jesus Name, Let Angels Prostate fall! These guys were on their faces before God.
With Him as the Head we have
His Wisdom
His Leadership
His Direction

4. By Believing We Have Life In His Name.
The whole purpose of John writing his Gospel
John 20.30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.

5. He Is Our Peace.

We have  peace with God through Him.
Romans 5.1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2.14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility

Both the absence of internal was and eventually peace on earth goodwill toward men. Love towards everybody!

The world is in desparate need of Him. People are deeply hurging themselves from the consequences of sin.
Philippians 3.18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
Jesus is the Son of God, the Creator of all things in the heavens and on the earth and He is the Savior of the world. That is the Good News for both sinner and saint today!

The Tragedy of God

The Tragedy of God

Philippians 2.1-11

And Can It Be?

The feebleness of the church is being criticized today, and the criticism is justified. One reason for the feebleness is that there has not been this focus on the true center of spiritual power. We have not dwelt enough on the tragedy of Calvary or on the meaning of redemption. -Oswald Chambers

As we begin Advent this morning we are looking at the condescension of Christ. This has been referred to as the Self Emptying Passage. Bible Scholars and Theologians have come up short trying to describe all we are being told here. Each time I look at this passage there are new things that surface. The depth of it must be appreciated and embraced. When we get to heaven we will know fully the depth of all of God’s Word.

This section of scripture describes what was going on behind the Christmas Account. We see the manger with our eyes. This is taking us into the Heart of Jesus. Our hearts and His together as we begin the Christmas Season, Advent.

This passage is showing us God’s heart, His Son’s heart and it is calling us to be like Jesus! It calls us to have this same mind!

1. He Humbled Himself v.8
In His Incarnation

Appearance as a man
Now in flesh appearing
Appearance= to have, i.e. to hold, to possess, to own
to hold one's self to a thing, to lay hold of a thing, to adhere or cling to

He did not hold onto His position in Heaven but clung to His becoming a man, in the flesh
He emptied Himself.
He made Himself nothing. v.7

Christ laid aside equality with or the form of God.

The Word became flesh. John 1.14

The Condescension Jesus leaving heaven to be conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit.

Proverbs 16.18 Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.

Jesus is the embodiment of humility!
He humbled Himself in choosing to leave heaven. He stepped down, way down.

How we need to humble ourselves
In the sight of Almighty God
In the issues of life
With others
In the US

2. He Took On the Form of a Servant.  v.7
morphe
A Slave
One who gives himself up to another's will; those whose service is used by Christ in extending and advancing His cause among men

He washed the feet of the disciples
He taught the Truth about God, with authority
He went about like a doctor would only better by far. Some doctors in the first century were slaves.
He fed the multitudes. He turned the water into wine.

He took our place on the cross.

The Humiliation

3. He Became Obedient To Death.  v.8
The ultimate tragedy of God.
He created life. The Lifegiver giving up His Life.
The Creator dying for the creation.

The Crucifixion the method was horrible and humiliating. It was so inhumane.
It was used a a deterrent for crime.

Christ submitted to this cruel and horrific treatment.
He knew this is what His Father wanted. He loved the church and gave Himself up for her. What a mystery of grace and love.
It is mystical union that exists between Christ and the Church.

4. God Has Highly Exalted Him.  vs.9-11

Isaiah 16.5 In love a throne will be established;
in faithfulness a man will sit on it—
one from the house of David—
one who in judging seeks justice
and speeds the cause of righteousness.

Name above all names
Every Knee bowing
Every Tongue confessing  that Jesus is LORD.

The Highest Heavens

The Exaltation

5. Salvation Is Found In No One Else.

Jesus is it. He is the Way!
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Acts 4.12
 The Invitation
Matthew 11.28 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Good Friday was not good for Jesus.
Christmas began the journey to the cross.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
Seek to become like Him.
Let this mind be in you that was in Him in coming and dying.
