In View of God’s Mercies

In View Of God’s Mercies Romans 12.1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. We commemorate Jesus’ Palm Sunday Ride into Jerusalem today. It was by the mercy of God He did this. In view of God’s mercies... Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King Matthew 21.1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to Me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the LORD needs them, and he will send them right away.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 “Say to Daughter Zion,     ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey,     and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” 10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” 11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” The mercy of God is here, Jesus coming into Jerusalem knowing that by the end of the week they would put Him to death. He had been talking to His disciples, taking them aside, teaching them, explaining very clearly what was going to happen. He knew what was ahead. John 12. 20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. 23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves Me. 27 “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your Name.” Mercy here means compassion and pity. This is a quality of God. It is also one we ought to be having in increasing measure. Bellevue... beautiful view The view of God’s mercies is beauty beyond compare! In view of them our hearts melt. We are filled with mercy and a desire to serve. You will not regret being merciful when you obtain mercy. Three biggest regrets in life at the end: I did not live my dreams. I did not share my love. I did not forgive. -Hospice Chaplain on the Today Show this week God is merciful. His mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 3.22-23 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. So great is God’s mercy that each morning brings a fresh new measure of it! It is why we are not consumed. It is why America is not judged... yet. Compassion and pity As I grow in my faith my compassion and pity grow. When I look at situations people have gotten themselves into more and more I have pity on them. This is not of myself. It is God. He is merciful. Mercy looks at the situation with pity and compassion. Legalism wants to know whose fault it was. Policeman vs. Paramedic. Mark 10.48 “Son of David, have mercy on me.” Here mercy means to help one who is afflicted Mercy is spiritual. Having mercy on a person who has sinned. Mercy here is for a physical affliction. He made the blind to see. Jesus had compassion. He also had the ability to heal both the soul”s diseases and physical affliction. They can have something to do with each other. Mark 2. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” In view of God’s Mercy we see... God is faithful. Isaiah 53 His Mercy and His Faithfulness endure. Jesus’ suffering was foretold by Isaiah. God kept His Word! Jesus willingly laid down His life for us.. In view of God’s mercies we discover... God’s Will Can Be Known Test and approve It is good, pleasing and perfect. Some have said that Luke chapter 9 verse 51 is the most courageous verse in the Bible. 51 As the time approached for Him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Why did He do this? * He knew it was God’s Will. * He is the Master of Love. * He knew Jerusalem would not be His final work. Sometimes it is His will for us to suffer. Isaiah 53.10  Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush Him and cause Him to suffer Jesus embraced the cross, His cross. Jesus cried out my God my God why have you forsaken me. It was the last blow for the man of sorrows. Live by faith. Fenelon Be merciful. Imitate God. You will obtain mercy. You will become like Christ.
