The LORD, Time and Eternity
Psalm 90.1-12
The next few weeks we will be looking at the account in Genesis of Creation. If you have read Genesis 1 this past week you noticed that as we know it was part of the creation of the heavens and the earth. Before God created the heavens and the earth there was no morning and evening.
Look at the phrase we read this morning: "From everlasting to everlasting, You are God." v.2
The LORD has always been. He had no beginning. Genesis 1.1 In the beginning, God... This is the beginning of creation and time. God has been, is and will ever be.
The word "everlasting" has numerous meanings. One is "perpetual". Everlasting means a long or indefinite time of past or future. It means "a continuous "existence." It means "always". From Always to Always, You are God.
God has always been, is and is forever God.
He does not change. He remains the same.
Psalm 102.25-27
In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your Hands. They will all perish, but You will remain; they will wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and the will be discarded. But You remain the same and Your years will never end.
The name for God in the 90th Psalm is El. It means Mighty, Power, and Strength.
1. The LORD is Mighty in His Sovereignty. Romans 8.28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.
God is using events good and bad for our good. He is shaping us through life.
Psalm 103.19 The LORD has established His throne in heaven and His Kingdom rules over all.
Psalm 115.3 Our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.
This is a great encouragement to me. sometimes it seems as if things are working against me. They might be. But even those things God is working for my good. I believe one of the reasons this is spelled out so plainly is because it is at times very difficult to see when we are going through it.
He is in control. He rules over all. He acts in ways that please Him.
2. The LORD is Mighty in His Majesty. Isaiah 6.1
In the year that King Uzziah dies, I saw the LORD seated on a throne, high and exalted.
Each time a vision of God is given in the scriptures we see Him exalted.
He is exalted, His majesty is the Highest in all the world and the heavens.
He is above all. He beyond time. He transcends time. He is eternal.
3. The LORD is Mighty to Work on Our Behalf. Ephesians 3.20-21
He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to His power that is at work within us.
He works through us! He answers prayer. He gives us strength in our journey through time to eternity.
4. The LORD is Mighty to Save and Will Bring Us Home to be with Him One Day. Zephaniah 3.17
The LORD, your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing.
I Thessalonians 4.16-18 For the LORD Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the LORD in the air. And so we will be with the LORD forever. Therefore comfort each other with these words.
Until that day God calls us home, while we are in this time continuum, keep trusting the LORD, lean upon Him, look for Him to work in your life.
