Jesus Prays For Us

Jesus’ Prayer For Us

John 17.20-26

“I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message...”

1. Jesus Prayed For Our Unity.  v.21

The Oneness He and the Father have.
John 14.6-13

Perfect Unity
Romans 15.5-6
One Heart
One Mouth

Philippians 4.3 Euodia and Synctyche to agree with each other in the LORD.

Jesus’ prayer was that as brothers they would be united and as sons they would be in Him and the Father.

Galatians 3.28 There us neither Jew nor Greek, slave or free, male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

2. The World Will Believe Because In Part of Our Unity. vs. 21-23

When the Body of Christ is united...
Prayers get answered.
Love rules the day.
Work gets done.
Peace flows.
God is glorified.
Evangelism becomes “natural”

How beautiful and blessed and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together.
Psalm 133.1 delightful, sweet, lovely, agreeable, beautiful (physical), singing, sweetly sounding, musical

It is sweet. That is what the anointing oil smelled like.
It is sweet music. Harmonious, healing, lifting the spirits
When my friend Andy Rearick went to be with the LORD on Monday he had been surrounded by family and family of God singing. We have done that here with people we love. They are being sent out with those who love them around them singing songs about Jesus and they receive a a rich welcome.
II Peter 1.10Therefore, brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble, 11and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
12Therefore, I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have. 13I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body, 14since I know that it will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.

The world still needs to know that love of God which sent Jesus, His Son, to save it. The love of God the Father in sending His Son, giving Him up for us. The Father loves the Son but still gave Him to us to be the sacrifice for our sins. God loves us as he loves His only Son.- v.23 Amazing Love!

3. Jesus Prayed For Us To Be With Him In Heaven. -v24

He wants us to be with Him so much He prayed for it.
We are the Bride of Christ.

Jesus paid the price for our redemption with His own blood. He wants us with Him forever.

The promise is to comfort and encourage us. The thought of it delights Him. That is  grace beyond our ability to take it in.

4. Jesus Prayed For The Ongoing Work of the Holy Spirit. -vs.25-26

That is our greatest need today!

That is what we need to join with Jesus in praying for!

Let’s be the answer to His prayer for us!
